Representatives of the headquarters of the Supreme Command of the Allied Armed Forces of NATO in Europe visited Armenia and discussed the prospects for cooperation with the leadership of the Republic’s Ministry of Defense, the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported on Thursday.

“On November 5-6, a delegation led by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the NATO Supreme Command in Europe, Vice Admiral Gunstein Bruasdal (Norway) arrived in Armenia on a working visit,” the statement says.

It is noted that during the visit, the NATO delegation held meetings with the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Major General Artur Yeroyan, and the Head of the Defense Policy and International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Defense Levon Ayvazyan.

“During the meetings, issues related to the current state and prospects of Armenia-NATO cooperation were discussed,” the press service stated.

Representatives of the alliance were told about defense reforms in the republic.

There is an individual partnership plan between Armenia and NATO countries, which was signed in December 2005. Armenia’s participation in this plan involves periodic consultations with NATO on regional security, the development of this security strategy itself, the development of Armenia’s military doctrine, improvement of the defense and budget planning process and other issues.

In March, then Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Armenia and NATO were close to agreeing on a new partnership program.
