Szijjártó called Trump’s victory the best option for Hungary.

Szijjártó called Trump’s victory the best option for Hungary.

From the point of view of the Hungarians, it will be better if the Americans elect Donald Trump as president, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said, adding that Budapest will respect any choice of US citizens.

“We are very proud of the fact that President Trump routinely refers to his friendly relationship with (Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor) Orbán. They have an excellent relationship on both a personal and professional basis. They have already worked together very well during Trump’s presidency. They have maintained this relationship ever since,” Szijjártó said.

And if you look at the US elections from a Hungarian point of view – not from an American point of view (I can’t do that – I’m not American, I’m Hungarian, so I can only look at the US elections from a Hungarian point of view), of course, from a Hungarian point of view, It would be much better for us if the Americans elected President Trump,” he stressed.

At the same time, he stressed that Hungarians always respect the results of elections in the United States, regardless of their outcome.

“We are trying to build the best possible relationship because it shows respect for the will of the American people,” he concluded.

Earlier, Szijjártó called the words of US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris addressed to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban “not the best start.” Last week on CBS News’ Late Show with Stephen Collbert, the host began talking about how former President Donald Trump likes to talk about his close relationships with Viktor Orban, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un. Suddenly, Harris interrupted him and called all the listed leaders “dictators, autocrats and those who are perfectly described by the word “murderers.” In turn, Szijjártó said, commenting on Harris’s words, that such statements are unacceptable and are a sign of disrespect for the Hungarians.

The US presidential elections will take place on November 5th. The Democratic Party will be represented by Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Republican Party by former President Donald Trump.
