Sweden said the kingdom may fall behind in the use of UAVs.

Sweden said the kingdom may fall behind in the use of UAVs.

Sweden needs to include drones in the development of the country’s defense potential, otherwise the kingdom may lag behind other countries in the field of drone use, Carl-Johan Edström, head of the joint operations department of the Swedish armed forces, told SVT television.

“We have not seen the full potential of drone warfare, so this is something that we must include in our continued growth (defense capability). We are at a very important inflection point where we need to build up (defense capabilities). In this… we must take advantage of the opportunity to use new technologies and innovations,” Edström said.

This is where we see that in some areas we need to act faster… if we don’t achieve these new capabilities quickly enough, we will fall behind,” Öström added.

In September, the Swedish government confirmed that it had proposed increasing funding for the armed forces by more than 27 billion kroner (about $2.4 billion).
