Stoltenberg opened the NATO summit in Vilnius.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday opened the next summit of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, which is taking place in Vilnius, and during which it is planned to make a number of “historic” decisions for the bloc, including on Ukraine’s membership and building up its military presence in Europe, including borders of Russia.

“Today we will make many decisions that will strengthen our alliance,” he said, opening the summit. The broadcast was conducted on the NATO website.

Among the decisions that NATO leaders plan to approve include, in particular, a voluminous package of multi-year support for Ukraine, including the abolition of conditions for the implementation of the action plan for its future membership, new regional defense plans for the alliance, which involve further strengthening near the borders with Russia and scenarios for a case of “military confrontation with the Russian Federation“, as well as an increase in the goal of defense spending at a level of at least 2% of GDP and the militarization of industry.
