South Korea will hold large-scale military exercises on October 16.

South Korea will begin holding annual large-scale Hoguk field exercises from October 16,  the country’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported.

The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps take part in the annual exercise. They will last until November 22. The purpose of the exercise is to enhance defense readiness and interoperability.

This year’s exercise will reportedly simulate a variety of nuclear threats, including from North Korean missiles and drones. US military personnel will also take part in exercises to enhance interoperability.

The annual Hoguk exercises have been held since 1996 in the second half of the year.
