Protesters burned down the city hall in Indonesia.

The mayor’s office in the Indonesian city of Gorontalo was burned down during a demonstration demanding compensation from a gold mining company.

The City Hall arson incident began when protesters demanded compensation for land seized from them from the gold mining company PT. According to the police, the company tried to calm the residents, but the general crush led to chaos, the climax of which was the arson of the PT office, as well as the local administration building. Police said the fire at City Hall was successfully extinguished, but the building was heavily damaged.

“The building is significantly damaged, there is serious damage,” the head of the public relations department of the Gorontalo regional police, Desmont Hargendro said.

So far there have been no reports of casualties as a result of the fire. It is clarified that the police detained several protesters who are suspected of provoking unrest.
