Over 1,000 people evacuated in Turkey due to wildfire

A forest fire in northwest Turkey has been going on for 11 hours, over a thousand people have been evacuated, the Milliyet newspaper reported.

A major forest fire that has broken out in Turkey’s northwest Çanakkale province has yet to be brought under control as authorities are preparing for the worst-case scenario, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumaklı said earlier. 8 planes, 26 helicopters, about 180 units of ground equipment are involved in fire extinguishing operations.

“In the fight against fire, 11 hours have already been left behind,” the newspaper writes.


It is specified that 1104 people were evacuated in ten settlements as a precaution.
