More than ten people were killed in an Israeli strike on a school in Gaza.

Civil defense spokesman in Gaza Mahmoud Basal said that the Israeli military struck a temporary refugee shelter located in a school building, killing more than ten people.

“One of the schools in the Shujaiya district, where a large number of families lived, came under attack <…> at the moment, the bodies of ten dead were taken to the hospital,” Basal said.

He clarified that three rockets were fired at the building and it was completely destroyed. There may be dozens of people and dead under the rubble.

According to the IDF, the school building was attacked because armed Hamas fighters were hiding there.

“Based on intelligence, the Israeli Air Force attacked terrorists operating at the Dalal School compound in the Shujaiyya area of ​​Gaza City. The compound was used by Hamas as a hideout for commanders and operatives and for planning terrorist attacks against the State of Israel,” – the army press service said in a statement.

The IDF stressed that it took measures to reduce the risk to civilians before the strike.
