More than 150,000 people in China’s southeastern Fujian province have been evacuated due to approaching Typhoon Gaemi, China Central Television reported, citing local flood and drought control headquarters.

“As of 7:00 on July 25, a total of 29,424 people were evacuated to shore from the areas of fish breeding cages in the coastal zone,” the television report said.

In addition, 3,199 people from 733 fishing vessels were evacuated ashore. It is noted that a total of 156,800 people in the province were evacuated to safe places.

According to television, as of 0.00 on July 25, Typhoon Gaemi hit Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan, and is expected to approach the coast of Fujian Province by Thursday evening.


The day before, China’s Central Meteorological Administration announced the highest red warning level for Typhoon Gaemi. As the typhoon approached, railway companies began to halt service. Thus, Shenzhen Railway stopped the movement of almost 260 trains. In addition, Nanchang Railway suspended all passenger train services in Fujian province from Thursday.
