Macron will instruct the next prime minister to ensure funding guarantees for the 2030 Olympic Games.

French President Emmanuel Macron has promised to provide funding for the 2030 Winter Olympics in France and entrust this task to the country’s future prime minister.

“I would like to tell you about the budgetary guarantees of the French government for the future organizing committee. I am going to ask the next prime minister not only to provide these guarantees, but also to pass the Olympic law in the new government,” the president said, speaking at a session of the International Olympic Committee ( IOC) in Paris.

He promised that the preparatory work would be completed on time, “within budget, socially and environmentally.” Macron acknowledged that many are “skeptical about the current model of mountain conservation” as practiced in France.

However, he expressed confidence in the ability of the team of the future organizing committee and companies operating in the region to provide the necessary level of preparation for the competition.

“Now we have to come up with a new model, a sustainable model for the people who live in the mountains and also for the Winter Games. And this is a unique opportunity for us,” he said.

During this session, the IOC conditionally delegated the right to host the 2030 Winter Olympics to France. IOC head Thomas Bach said before the vote that the choice was conditional and the contract for the event would be signed only after government guarantees were provided.

France’s application was the only one, and it was approved by the IOC Executive Committee in June.

France has been unable to provide guarantees to the IOC since the cabinet led by Gabriel Attal resigned last week. The French government continues to act until a new prime minister is appointed, but cannot initiate the provision of state guarantees for the Games.
