Lockheed Martin offered Poland the production of missiles for HIMARS.

Lockheed Martin has offered Poland the production of GMLRS missiles for HIMARS MLRS systems, a company representative said.

According to him, the company is negotiating the production of these missiles by the Polish Mesko plant, planning to produce two versions of the GMLRS missiles for the needs of the Polish armed forces.

“Initial production, likely from kits sourced from the US, could begin in 2026,” a Lockheed Martin spokesman said.

Despite the signing of a framework agreement for the purchase of up to 486 HIMARS launchers in September 2023 by then Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, the final agreement has not yet been signed. Warsaw said Poland’s goal is to “polonize” the systems by installing them on Polish platforms and integrating them with Polish control systems. Then there was talk of joint production of missiles.

GMLRS guided missiles are the basic type of ammunition for HIMARS, the main variant of which has a range of up to about 70 km. Last year, the US State Department approved the sale to Poland of a total of up to 9 thousand missiles of this type in three versions.
