In the US, a former defense contractor was accused of tax evasion.

Former American military contractor Douglas Edelman and his wife are accused of evading taxes on the income of US defense industry companies in the amount of more than $350 million, it became known from the indictment of the District Court of the US capital of Washington.

Former US defense contractor Douglas Edelman, 72, and his wife, Delphine Le Den, 58, are charged with running a decades-long scheme to evade taxes on more than $350 million in income.

From 2003 to 2020, Edelman allegedly owned 50% of the shares of the American companies Mina Corporation and Red Star Enterprises, which received more than seven billion dollars from the US Department of Defense to supply jet fuel to the US contingent in Afghanistan and the Middle East.

Prosecutors allege that Edelman and his wife hid their income from these companies for years, using hidden foreign bank accounts and false documents and claiming that his wife, as a French citizen, had no tax obligations to the United States. The indictment consists of 30 counts.

Le Den allegedly signed false documents, some of which entitled her to “gifts” for certain personal expenses.

Edelman was arrested on the Spanish island of Ibiza. The United States intends to seek Edelman’s extradition.
