General To Lam became the new president of Vietnam.

The National Assembly of Vietnam has elected the Minister of Public Security, Army General To Lam, as its new president.

“General To Lam has become the new president of Vietnam following a vote in the National Assembly on Wednesday morning,” a local media report said.


Earlier it was reported that the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV Central Committee) nominated Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General To Lam for the post of president of the country.


Colonel General To Lam is 66 years old, he served his entire career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), from 1993 to 2010 he held senior positions in the departments and main departments of the MPS, supervising political protection and counterintelligence units, in 2010 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Public Security, and in 2016 he took the post of minister and was elected to the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPV.
