France responded to Israeli statements about the eviction of Palestinians from Gaza.

France called on Israel to refrain from making provocative statements about the need to evict Palestinians from Gaza, the Republic’s Foreign Ministry said in a communiqué.

The Foreign Ministry condemned recent statements by the Israeli authorities regarding the need to resettle Palestinians outside the Gaza Strip, as well as the resumption of settlements in the Gaza Strip.

“We call on Israel to refrain from such provocative declarations, which are irresponsible and fuel tension. Israel does not have the right to decide where Palestinians should live on their territory. The issue of the future of the Gaza Strip and its residents will be part of the creation of a unified Palestinian state living in peace and security under neighborhood with Israel,” the text of the communiqué says.

The Foreign Ministry recalled that the forced relocation of the population is a serious violation of international law.

The day before, France’s permanent representative to the UN, Nicolas de Rivière, called for a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, noting that a purely humanitarian solution is not enough.
