Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that it is in the interests of all countries to end tensions between Ukraine and Russia peacefully through diplomacy.

Erdogan met with Macron in Hungary, where he arrived to participate in the summit of the European Political Community.

“During the meeting, bilateral relations between Turkey and France, as well as regional and global issues were discussed. During the meeting, President Erdogan said that relations between Turkey and France are based on deep history and that deepening trade and economic relations will benefit both countries,” – the Turkish leader’s office said.

Erdogan said that Turkey operates with a strategic perspective of full membership in the European Union, that this process needs to be intensified and that promises regarding the renewal of the Customs Union and visa liberalization must be fulfilled.

“President Erdogan stated that it is in the interests of all countries to end tensions between Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Palestine, and Israel and Lebanon peacefully through diplomacy,” the office said.
