Emotional Tupac’s prison letter to Madonna goes on auction for $100K

Tupac Shakur dated Madonna in the 90s, but the couple split because of racial prejudice. The emotional letter written by Tupac from his prison cell explains why he and Madonna had to split. The letter goes on auction for $100K on Wednesday.

Tupac’s hand-written document from Madonna’s personal archive of will appear at auction for $100,000. This historical note dated January 15, 1995, the Hit Em Up star’s letter gave an insight into his relationship with the Vogue singer, then 37.

Appearing to explain why he called time on their relationship, Tupac explained:

‘For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardise your career, if anything it would make you seem more open and exciting.’

Tupac didn’t want to a black man in the life of prospective Material Girl, the rapper didn’t want to jeopardise her sky-rocketing career as well. Unbelievable, but these words were written just decade prior to electing the first Afro-American US President!

Tupac and Madonna: fast and dramatic romance in the 90s

In 2015, Madonna made headlines after revealing she had dated the rapper three years before his death in 1995. In her interview with Howard Stern, she confessed:

“One time I was mad at [David Letterman] when I said the f-word a lot, but the rest of the time was good,” Madonna told Howard Stern. I was in a weird mood that day. I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time, and he had got me all riled up about life in general. So, when I went on the show I was feeling very gangsta.” 

In his letter from prison cell, the late rapper started by calling Madonna “M,” writing,

“I’ve waited a long time 2 finally write this mainly because I was struggling to find all the answers that I wouldn’t leave any unanswered questions. First and foremost, I must apologize to you because like you said I haven’t been the kind of friends I know I am capable of being.”
