Donald Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to meet in Washington, the top Russian diplomat’s visit to the White House is his first since 2013 and first for US president as well.
On Wednesday, the American leader will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for the discussing the issues of an international politics. The central place in this discussion set Syria and the Russian plan on stabilisation in the Middle East region.
It will be the highest-level meeting between the U.S. and Russian administrations since Trump took office as president early this year. This meeting is the clear signal that US relations with Russia have improved, expert believe.
The sides should discuss the Russian plan to stabilise Syria after more than six years of civil war is the most urgent foreign policy topic on the agenda. Thanks to the visit of State Secretary Rex Tillerson to Moscow last month, both sides got a solid base for the further discussion. After Tillerson’s visit to Kremlin on April 12, US President noted:
“Right now we’re not getting along with Russia at all.”
Lavrov’s visit to Washington
According to Mr Lavrov’s schedule, he will spend three days in the USA, first, he planned to meet with the State Secretary Tillerson, then Russian diplomat is going to Alaska for the Arctic Council Ministerial meeting.
Mr Lavrov’s meeting with Donald Trump is closed to the press, few details may emerge of what they discuss. However, its timing — in the midst of the furore over the Trump administration’s firing of Comey — has raised some eyebrows.
