China has increased its oil and gas imports.

China in January-July 2023 increased the volume of imports of oil and natural gas by 12.4% and 7.6%, respectively, according to data released on Tuesday by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.

During the reporting period, China imported 325.752 million tons of oil, in terms of price, the purchase of crude oil from abroad cost $187.293 billion, which is 12.3% less than in the same period in 2022. In July, China purchased 43.686 million tons of oil from abroad for $23.904 billion.

The volume of natural gas imports in January-July 2023 amounted to 66.876 million tons in the amount of $36.9 billion (in price terms, an increase of 1.1%). In July, China bought 10.3 million tons of natural gas from abroad for $4.9 billion.

Coal imports in the first seven months of 2023 amounted to 261.184 million tons (an increase of 88.6%) and cost China $31.563 billion (an increase of 41.4% in price terms). In July, China bought 39.26 million tons of coal from abroad for $3.867 billion.
