China is ready to cooperate with Germany to stop the fire and end hostilities in Ukraine as soon as possible, said Li Hui, the PRC’s special representative for Eurasian affairs, at a meeting with State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry Thomas Bagger.
⠀
Li Hui embarked on his second European tour on March 2 to help resolve the crisis in Ukraine. He has already visited Moscow, Brussels, Kyiv, and also visited Poland.
⠀
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Li Hui and Bagger had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on Sino-German relations, the Ukrainian crisis, the peace negotiation process, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
⠀
“The current threat of escalation of conflict and confrontation is not in line with the common interests of the broader international community, including China and Germany. China is willing to cooperate with Germany to jointly support the timely holding of a peace conference with equal participation of all parties, and to pave the way as soon as possible for a ceasefire and ceasefire,” Li Hui said.
⠀
In turn, Bagger noted that China and Germany have a consensus regarding the crisis, further steps and prospects for peace negotiations.
⠀
“We are ready to continue interaction with China on this issue,” he said.
⠀
Last February, the Chinese authorities published a position paper on resolving the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv, which includes 12 points, including calls for a ceasefire, respect for the legitimate security interests of all countries, and a solution to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
