China has accused NATO of interfering in its internal affairs.

NATO is interfering in China’s internal affairs, distorting its domestic and foreign policies, challenging China’s security, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Tuesday.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview with the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri, said that the alliance does not consider China an adversary, but Beijing is challenging NATO’s values, interests and security.

“I don’t know what NATO’s values are. If they are about using ideological lines to create contradictions, provoke confrontation and escalate tensions, then China really cannot agree with that,” the diplomat said.

She stressed that “in reality, it is NATO that continuously challenges China, interferes in China’s internal affairs, distorts and denigrates China’s domestic and foreign policies, and poses a serious challenge to Beijing’s interests and security.”
