Borrell expects to agree on military assistance to Ukraine by the end of the year.

EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said he expects to agree on military assistance to Ukraine for 2024 in the amount of up to five billion euros by the end of the year.

He announced this following an informal meeting in Kyiv of the foreign ministers of the European Union, which did not involve any decisions.

“I have proposed a new bilateral multi-year package of military assistance (to Ukraine) from the European Peace Fund in the amount of up to five billion euros for next year… I hope that we can reach an agreement on them before the end of this year during the negotiation of amendments to the multi-year EU budget,” – Borrell said.

The head of European diplomacy also confirmed the EU’s intention to train about 40 thousand Ukrainian military personnel, including pilots for the F-16, by the end of the year.
