An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 was registered in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaraş, the disaster management authority (AFAD) reported on the social network X.

According to the department, tremors were registered at 09:18 local time in the Elbistan region.


The source of the earthquake lay at a depth of 14.37 kilometers.


Powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 with an interval of nine hours in the Kahramanmaraş province in southeastern Turkey. Tremors were felt in 11 provinces of the country and neighboring countries, including Syria.

Turkish authorities called the earthquakes “the disaster of the century.” The death toll from the earthquakes on February 6 in southeastern Turkey reached 50.5 thousand people.
