Jordan as the host the Arab League’s annual summit made a decision not to invite Syria. On Wednesday, this news announced the Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. Ayman Safadi reminded that the bloc suspended Damascus over a brutal repression regarding the protesters in 2011.
Jordan intends not to invite Syria to take part in the Arab League’s summit, the annual meeting is set on March 29. This Cairo-based bloc suspended the membership of Damascus five years ago, the reason was the tough repression after the demonstrations against the regime of al-Assad.
“How the invitations are dealt with will be based on the decisions of the Arab League, and we will abide by what it has decided,”
Ayman Safadi said.
His Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov tried to bring back Syria to the bloc, the diplomat insisted on the role of Syria in the search for a negotiated settlement of the war conflict. Despite the Lavrov’s call, the Arab League chief Ahmad Abu Al Geit ruled out this early return of Damascus to the Cairo-based bloc.
One of the leaders of bloc is Saudi Arabia (non-stop critic of the Assaad’s regime), which is backed by Riyadh’s regional rival Tehran. Knowing that fact, Safadi informed Jordan was not in direct contact with Iran over the Syrian conflict.
