EU leaders have not made a decision on sending military personnel to Ukraine

The leaders of the EU countries at the online summit did not make a decision on sending troops to Ukraine, first they need to decide on what conditions and when this could happen, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said.

“The presence of instructors in Ukraine has already been discussed, and this question has been answered positively. However, no decision has really been made yet on sending troops for broader operations,” Nauseda said at a press conference.

According to him, the Lithuanian authorities are also consulting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense on this issue, but “first we need to answer the question on what conditions and at what stage these peacekeepers may end up” in Ukraine, and only then “a decision can be made.”

The Lithuanian president stressed that this issue was discussed at the summit, but “very different formats” of the presence of EU troops in Ukraine are possible.
