The administration of US President Joe Biden will allocate more than a billion dollars in military assistance to Ukraine by the end of the year, Defense One reported, citing an unnamed American official.
⠀
“The administration intends to use the 1.22 billion remaining under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative,” the publication says.
⠀
It is noted that another statement on the provision of military assistance to Kyiv is expected by the end of the year.
⠀
The Pentagon still has $5.6 billion worth of weapons and equipment it could transfer to Ukraine, but at least some of that will go to the next administration, the official said.
⠀
Washington’s total spending on assistance to Kyiv, according to the publication, exceeded $59 billion.
⠀
As The Wall Street Journal wrote, the Biden administration will not have time to spend all the money remaining at its disposal to help Ukraine.
⠀
According to the publication’s sources, in order to spend the remaining balance, the volume of supplies must exceed $110 million per day.
⠀
The newspaper’s interlocutors noted concerns that the future administration may refuse to transfer new packages of military support to Ukraine in order to bring Kyiv to the negotiating table.
⠀
Donald Trump himself noted in an interview with Time that he was going to use this issue as leverage on Russia.
