German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised that while he is the head of the country’s Cabinet, Germany will not, at the expense of its security, send military personnel to Ukraine and supply it with Taurus cruise missiles, he said this on the eve of the upcoming vote of confidence in the Bundestag.

“We don’t do anything that jeopardizes our own security, and that’s why we don’t supply (Ukraine) any cruise missiles. These are long-range weapons that can be used deep into Russia. And we certainly won’t send German soldiers to this war , not with me as chancellor,” he said.

The Chancellor stated that German citizens are concerned about the issue of Ukraine, and emphasized once again that Germany provides the largest military assistance to Kyiv in Europe.

The vote on the vote of confidence in the Scholz government will take place today, December 16. If Scholz expresses confidence, he will be able, led by a minority government (Social Democrats and Greens), to begin coalition negotiations with other parties. This scenario is considered unlikely due to the almost universal consensus in the Bundestag on the need for early elections.
