South Korea proposed creating a council of parliament and government.

South Korea proposed creating a council of parliament and government.

South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung has called for the creation of a joint parliament-government council to stabilize government while President Yoon Seok-yeol is temporarily suspended from office following his impeachment.

“I propose to create an inter-party cooperation body to stabilize government, a joint council of parliament and government to ensure stability,” the head of the United Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung said.

He added that the Democratic Party is ready to actively cooperate with all parties to stabilize government and “restore international trust.”

“Now that the president has been removed from office, the Civil Force party is no longer the ruling party. Now there is neither a ruling nor an opposition party – everyone is in a neutral state. If the Civil Force does not cooperate, it will lose the right to exist as political party. I hope they will not miss the historical moment for the sake of petty interests,” the opposition leader added, calling on opponents to participate in a joint council.

Lee Jae-myung stressed the importance of South Korea’s economic recovery, saying his party would “spare no effort” on cross-party cooperation to address economic instability, including measures to stabilize the market and protect investments. He also said there was a need to quickly discuss a supplementary budget and consider allocating funds to support local economies, such as regional currencies, and projects related to artificial intelligence.

The opposition leader appealed to the Constitutional Court, calling for the process of removing President Yoon Seok-yeol to be completed as soon as possible, as this is the only way to “minimize chaos in the state.”
