Argentina has threatened to block the final communique of the G20 summit due to a number of objections and intends to more actively promote its point of view on these issues after Donald Trump’s US election victory, which “emboldened” his conservative allies in other countries, the Financial Times reports with reference to to knowledgeable sources.

Argentina and its President Javier Milley, a close Trump ally, have threatened to block a joint communiqué due to be approved by G20 leaders at a meeting in Rio de Janeiro that starts on Monday over objections over taxation of the super-rich and gender equality, the publication says.


Argentina’s veto threat has fueled concerns among many Western diplomats that Trump’s election will embolden his conservative allies and prompt countries to withdraw from ambitious agreements on issues such as global warming.


The G20 Heads of State Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19.
