The IEA commented on the idea of creating a security belt around Afghanistan.

There is no need to develop a plan to create a security belt around Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) said.

“Afghanistan is completely safe, such belts are not needed, and drugs in Afghanistan are completely eliminated and prohibited. In this case, expressing concern does not benefit anyone. We must assure that Afghanistan will in no way allow its territory to pose a threat,” – the IEA press secretary said.

Mujahid called claims about drug trafficking and weapons smuggling from Afghanistan false. According to Mujahid, “unfortunately, sometimes citizens of other states arrive in Afghanistan, which creates some unsafe situation.”

Earlier, the CIS Executive Committee supported the CSTO initiative to create a joint working group to organize a security belt around Afghanistan.

The plan to create a security belt around Afghanistan was first proposed in January 2022 by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon
