The head of the European Parliament spoke in favor of creating a European Defense Union.

The President of the European Parliament (EP), Roberta Metsola, believes that the EU should create a security and defense union that would complement NATO.

“The EU must always be stronger,” she said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo. “We must be <…> consistent and effective before asking ourselves what we expect from others.” “And I say the same thing when it comes to creating, for example, a real security and defense union, an alliance that we have been demanding for a long time, that would complement NATO,” added Metsola. “Europe must stand up for itself.”

Commenting on the upcoming US elections, she recalled that the EU has always worked with the United States. “We must be prepared for anything, no matter what happens next week,” the head of the EP added. “I will continue to hope that we can continue to work together.”
