Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Friday in Istanbul, called for solidarity among the countries of the Middle East regarding Israel’s actions.

Erdogan received Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Saturday at the Vahdettin Mansion in Istanbul. During the reception, bilateral relations between Turkey and Iraq, regional and global issues were discussed.

“During the meeting, President Erdogan stated that Turkey and Iraq are two neighboring countries with deep historical and cultural ties, and that improving relations and taking advantage of cooperation opportunities, especially the Development Road project, will bring numerous benefits to both countries, and that they will continue resolutely take the necessary steps to achieve this,” the Turkish leader’s office said.

Erdogan said that terrorist organizations pose a security threat to both Turkey and Iraq, that an indiscriminate fight against all terrorist organizations will serve the peace and stability of both countries, and that Turkey is satisfied with the positive steps taken by the Iraqi government in the fight against the outlawed Workers’ Party of Kurdistan in Turkey.

“President Erdogan said that the Israeli aggression spreading in our region poses a threat to both regional and global peace, and that the international community, especially the countries of the region, must act in solidarity to prevent this and ensure peace and tranquility, and that Turkey will continue its efforts in the name of peace,” the office clarified.
