Egypt believes that escalation in the Middle East could lead to a major confrontation.

Egyptian authorities believe that the current round of escalation of tension in the region, associated with a night attack by the Israeli Air Force on Iranian territory, could intentionally or as a result of the slightest mistake lead to a large-scale confrontation in the Middle East region. This is stated in a special statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Cairo “follows with great concern the accelerating escalation in the Middle East, including the consequences of the recent Israeli strike on Iran, and condemns any actions that lead to an escalation of the situation,” the document says.

It states that Egypt “warns of the current dangerous level of tension, which could lead, either intentionally or through miscalculation, to the region sliding into a dangerous confrontation that threatens international peace and security.”

As the Foreign Ministry statement emphasizes, Egypt “confirms its demand for the need to comply with international law and the UN Charter, which obliges all parties not to infringe on the sovereignty of states and to respect their unity and territorial integrity.”
