Seven employees of the Interpol Bureau in Moldova were deprived of access to state secrets after a corruption scandal,  the head of the Moldovan police, Viorel Cernautanu said.

On June 6, the head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova, Veronica Dragalin, spoke about the investigation into an international corruption case. According to a joint investigative team from Moldova and France, officials from Moldova and other countries, in exchange for large bribes amounting to several million dollars, helped evade prosecution for persons on the international wanted list at the request of Interpol. As part of this case, the head of the Interpol Bureau, Viorel Centiu, was placed under arrest for 30 days, then he was transferred to house arrest. An internal investigation was conducted against seven other employees.

“Currently, they work in other structures that do not require access to state secrets or are not related to this process. And although they do not have procedural status in the criminal prosecution body, they have been removed from this area of ​​activity,” Cernauteanu said in aired on TVR Moldova.

At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that it had temporarily stopped the internal investigation against the head of Interpol arrested in this case. The Ministry of Internal Affairs considered that this could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
