The peace plan of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to resolve the conflict in Ukraine is on the table of all EU leaders, said the political director of the Hungarian Prime Minister Balazs Orban in an interview with the Magyar Nemzet newspaper.
⠀
“A realistic assessment of the situation, realistic goals and a suitable timetable is what our approach is based on,” he added.
⠀
According to him, the role of Hungary should not be overestimated, but it should not be underestimated that Orban managed to hold a number of meetings in two weeks, “the opportunities for which most countries in the world have been waiting for years.”
⠀
Budapest, according to Balazs Orbán, will use the entire period of its EU presidency “to create conditions for peace negotiations”, putting forward “political initiatives” for consideration by the EU Council.
⠀
“The Prime Minister of Hungary briefed EU leaders in detail about his visits. These visits were very important because at the moment our country is the only country that has fresh and concrete information on how the warring parties and the most important mediating players think, and how you can maneuver between different interests,” the politician noted.
⠀
According to him, if Europe is serious about peace, then it can create a plan that has “at least a minimal chance of implementation.”
⠀
Viktor Orban arrived in Moscow on July 5 and met with Vladimir Putin. He called the visit to Moscow the next stage of the peace mission, which began with a trip to Kyiv on July 2. The Hungarian Prime Minister said that he intends to hold several similar unexpected meetings soon. He then visited Beijing, where he stated that Hungary is against confrontation with China and for cooperation between the EU and China. After Beijing, the Hungarian prime minister went to Washington for the NATO summit, on the sidelines of which he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He then held talks with former US President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
⠀
After his visit to China, Orban said that the crisis around Ukraine should be resolved by the parties to the conflict, but the United States, China and the EU have a decisive influence on its end.
