Macron retained Attal as prime minister of France.

French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal resigned after snap parliamentary elections, but President Emmanuel Macron asked him to continue in his role.

“Macron asked Attal to remain as prime minister for now in order to ensure stability in the country,” a presidential administration spokesman said.

In France, the second round of early elections to the lower house of parliament, the National Assembly, took place the day before.

According to preliminary data, the New Popular Front coalition of left parties won the parliamentary elections in France, receiving 181 seats out of 577.

Emmanuel Macron’s Together coalition took second place, receiving 168 seats. Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National took third place with 143 seats.

Thirty-five-year-old Gabriel Attal has headed the French government since January of this year. In the last elections he was elected deputy in the tenth electoral district of Haut-de-Seine.
