Deutsche Bahn apologized to fans for delays and train cancellations.

Deutsche Bahn apologized to fans for delays and train cancellations.

Many fans who came to cheer on their teams at the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany were late for matches or were unable to attend due to train delays and cancellations, Deutsche Bahn (DB) acknowledges this problem and apologizes for this, member of the board of directors of the railway company Michael Peterson said.

Earlier, a number of media reported that thousands of people were late or were unable to get to the matches of the European Football Championship taking place in Germany. Many German politicians called it a “disgrace” for Germany and called for consequences.

“We understand the frustration and criticism of fans. The railroad is not currently providing the quality that everyone deserves. At the same time, we are doing everything we can to reliably deliver passengers to their destinations,” Peterson said.

According to Deutsche Bahn, up to 5 million people have used IC and ICE fast trains since the start of the championship, he added.

Earlier, the director of the 2024 European Football Championship, Philipp Lahm, criticized Germany’s transport infrastructure after being late for the match between the national teams of Slovakia and Ukraine.

Recently, Deutsche Bahn began to modernize the railway network in the country and received subsidies from the state for this purpose. This, among other things, leads to delays and train cancellations.

Recently it became known about the company’s plans to reduce trains on a number of routes, especially in the eastern federal states of Saxony, Thuringia and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as well as a possible increase in ticket prices due to an increase in railway fees. The publication even indicated specific routes along which trains might stop running. The press service of Deutsche Bahn confirmed that a number of trains in Germany may be canceled due to rising costs, and ticket prices will rise.
