The Lithuanian Defense Minister resigned.

The head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, Arvydas Anusauskas, submitted his resignation to the prime minister, the LRT (Lithuanian Radio and Television) portal reported, citing the government press service.

“The government press service confirms that on Friday Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte received the Minister of Defense’s resignation letter,” the statement said.


The publication notes that on Saturday there will be a meeting between the Minister of Defense and the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, which Anusauskas himself asked for.


The prime minister’s comment is expected on Monday, the portal added.


According to unofficial data, Anusauskas’ successor may be the Chairman of the Lithuanian Sejm Committee on National Security and Defense, Laurynas Kaciunas.
