More than 325 thousand refugees arrived in Germany in 2023.

In Germany, from January to November, more than 325 thousand applications for asylum were submitted on behalf of persons already in the country, which is 60% more than last year, the Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) reports.

“During the period from January to November 2023, 325,801 people applied for asylum in Germany. This is 60.3% more than the same period last year,”  a statement on the agency’s website says

To date, decisions have been made on 242,185 applications.

The majority of applications came from citizens of Syria (97.2 thousand), Turkey (56.7 thousand), Afghanistan (50.3 thousand), Iraq (11.5 thousand), Iran (9.7 thousand), Georgia (8.9 thousand) and the Russian Federation (8.4 thousand).

In recent months, Germany has been actively discussing the possibility of limiting migration flows. At the end of September, Scholz said that too many refugees were flocking to Germany.
