“We will launch the withdrawal operation this week, in due order, in security conditions and in coordination with the Niger side,” a spokesman for the French Armed Forces said.

In September, President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron announced that Paris was recalling its ambassador in Niamey and all embassy staff in Niger.

Then he announced that the French military would leave the country by the end of this year.

This was previously demanded by the rebels who removed President Mohamed Bazoum from his duties. In Paris they said that they would recognize the demands of only legitimate authorities.

The Republic of Niger, as a former French colony, remained one of the last allies of Western countries in the Sahel. In addition, the country has rich uranium reserves.
