The United States condemned Mexico’s decision to invite Russian troops to the parade.

The United States found Mexico’s decision to invite Russian troops to its Independence Day celebrations “strange,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.

Participants in the parade, which took place on September 16 in Mexico City, were soldiers of the 154th Preobrazhensky Regiment, which was founded by Peter I in the 17th century.

“I will say that we found this decision strange. I have nothing to add to this,” Miller answered the journalist’s question.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador previously called not to stir up a scandal over Russian participation in the parade, explaining that invitations had been sent to all countries with which Mexico has relations.
