Algeria has decided to open its airspace to flights delivering humanitarian aid to Morocco and transporting those injured in the country’s earthquake, the office of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said.

Earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported that an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred in Morocco, 80 kilometers from Marrakech. Later it became known that the death toll from the earthquake in Morocco had risen to 820, with another 672 people injured.

According to a statement from the office, the Algerian authorities “expressed their full readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and provide all material and human resources as a sign of solidarity with the Moroccan people.

“The Algerian authorities have also decided to open airspace to flights carrying humanitarian aid, wounded and injured people,” the Algerian Presidential Office said in a statement.
