The Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) has supported the early start of a military intervention in Niger, the President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara said.

“The chiefs of staff will hold several more conferences to finalize the issues, but they have the consent of the conference of heads of state to start the operation as soon as possible,” the leader of Côte d’Ivoire said.

According to Ouattara, Côte d’Ivoire will provide a battalion of 850 to 1,100 men. Along with soldiers from Nigeria and Benin, they will be joined by soldiers from other states.

“We are determined to return the President of Niger to his duties,” he added.


The United States and France supported the ECOWAS decision.
