Biden proposed significant changes to the UN Security Council.

The administration of US President Joe Biden is developing a plan to add six more countries to the UN Security Council without veto power.

“The stakes are high as the Biden administration seeks to ensure that the United Nations remains the central instrument of conflict prevention, even as doubts grow about its ability to do so,” the media said.

As indicated in the article, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield is already discussing an initiative to expand the Security Council with diplomats from 193 member countries of the organization.

The Security Council is a permanent structure of the UN, which is entrusted with the main responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. Now 15 countries always sit in the Security Council: five permanent members and 10 temporary ones. Permanent – Russia, USA, UK, China and France. They have the power of veto. The ten others are elected for two years.
