In China, flags were lowered to half-mast on government buildings.

National flags on government buildings in China and on the buildings of Chinese diplomatic missions abroad have been flown at half mast after the death of former President of the People’s Republic of China, former General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Jiang Zemin.

Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin died on November 30 in Shanghai at the age of 96, suffering from leukemia and multiple organ failure.


Flags were flown at half mast on Thursday at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, over the Great Hall of the People and over the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Flags will be flown at half mast until the day of the funeral, a date for which has yet to be announced.


Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday that President Xi Jinping chaired the funeral committee for Jiang Zemin, whose list of members included more than 680 people, including Premier Li Keqiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the CPPCC Wang Yang , Vice Premier Han Zheng, Vice President Wang Qishan, all members of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee.
