The blame for Poland in a major environmental disaster on the border river Oder, which flows through the territory of Poland and Germany, was suggested by the German authorities.

Axel Vogel, Minister for the Environment of the federal German state of Brandenburg, blamed the massive death of fish and birds on mercury salts. It is noted that the first results of water samples from the river so surprised specialists from the Brandenburg laboratory that they were considered erroneous and were repeated: the concentration of mercury salts in the samples exceeded the permissible limits several times.

It is clarified that water with toxic substances also extends to the tributaries of the Oder. In particular, the Barych River was affected, where a massive fish kill and the death of birds were also noted. Now water with a high content of mercury salts goes to the Baltic Sea.

The consequences of the ecological catastrophe in Germany and Poland are eliminated by volunteers, they take out tons of dead fish from the Oder.

In turn, in Poland, the authorities of the Lubuskie Voivodeship called for declaring a state of emergency in the region. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced a million zloty (about $220,000) reward to anyone who finds those responsible for poisoning the river. Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced that soldiers and reservists would be sent to help clean up the river.
