Taxi drivers in Italy go on nationwide strike against traffic liberalization

Italian taxi drivers have declared a nationwide strike for 48 hours. The fact that Italy was left without a taxi for two days.

Taxi drivers protested against a competition decree that would liberalize the industry, including by organizing private passenger transport through special online applications. Representatives of the trade union of the sector, who organized the demonstration, said that this decision will lead to a deterioration in the quality of services due to a decrease in their cost.

“Our market is well regulated and in our sector one cannot speak of competition, but of transparency and professionalism,” union members say. It is noted that the strike led to difficulties with traffic on the streets and airports of the country.

On June 27, it was reported that a strike of transport system employees took place in Milan. Trade unions pointed to an increased number of cases of violence against workers of the Milan Transport Company (ATM), but the reasons for this were not given.
