The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday has included Saudi Arabia on its travel ‘green list,’ said the tourism ministry. The visitors from the neighbouring country will no longer quarantine themselves upon arrival in Abu Dhabi, although they would still need to follow COVID-19 testing rules, ArabNews has learned.
As part of Abu Dhabi’s updated coronavirus regulations, international travellers are now allowed to visit the emirate starting December 24. As of today, the UAE’s ‘green list’ for visitors includes as well Australia, Brunei, China, Greece, Greenland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
The UAE authorities insist that the foreign guests will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test result received within 96 hours of their departure, and will have to take the second test upon arrival in the capital city.
“All travellers will need to undertake a PCR test on day six if they are staying six or more consecutive days, as well as on day 12 if they are staying 12 or more consecutive days,” the Emergency Crisis and Disasters Committee said.
Tourists visiting from countries not on the green list will need to quarantine for ten days and the list will be reviewed fortnightly, the Committee clarified.

Meantime, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education has presented a new protocol when schools reopen on January 3rd. Under the new set of rules, limiting classroom capacity to just 15 students with keeping a 1.5-meter-distance.
The maximum of 15 only applies to areas where the students are socially distancing and wearing masks. The return to campus covers all levels, but schools will be subject to strict precautionary measures to avoid an outbreak.
Schools in the UAE’s capital city had started receiving students in the campus on Aug. 30 gradually.
