Texas Efforts To Stop Syrian Refugees From Resettling Opposed

The US Justice Department filed Friday to federal court an opposition against attempts by Texas about three weeks ago to block Syrian refugees from resettling by Governor Greg Abbott.

Two Syrian refugee families are expected to arrive in the state today seeking for resettling.

Next week 21 Syrian refugees, mostly children, will be resettling in Dallas and Houston. The group include grandparents and also a single woman who will be reuniting with her mother living in Texas.

Separate briefs have been filed by federal government as well as International Rescue Committee in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

After the recent terror attacks in French capital Paris several states in the US have asked a federal court to block arrival of Syrian refugees for resettling.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered about two years ago to the resettlement organization to block Syrian refugees’ arrival in the state.
