Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers were surprised when the actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep blasted for citing their statements in a lawsuit in defence of Hollywood mogul.
A dozen of Hollywood actresses claim the 65-year-old Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted or harassed them and that his behaviour was covered up by a system of people working within his former studios Miramax and the Weinstein Company. Hundreds of actors and actresses made their statements, in which they blamed such a producer’s behaviour, but none of them expected their expressions will be included for the defending the sexual predator.
A spokesman for Weinstein said:
“Mr Weinstein has been informed that his civil counsel responded in court to a class action lawsuit which improperly sought to include all actresses who had previously worked with Mr Weinstein, even where those actresses have made no claim of wrongdoing. ”
The lawyers in hips defending papers pointed to Jennifer Lawrence saying in a previous interview that Weinstein “had only ever been nice to me”, although they did not mention her adding:
“Except for the moments that he wasn’t, and then I called him an asshole.”
Both Streep and Lawrence have spoken out against the motion filed by Weinstein’s lawyers, and the producer has since apologised.
After filed a motion to dismiss the suit on Tuesday, lawyers arguing that it was “fatally overbroad” and would apply to “all women who ever met with Weinstein, regardless of whether they claimed to have suffered any identifiable harm.
The Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexual assault by dozens of women. Since last October, the mogul denies all allegations of non-consensual sex.
