JK Rowling and Prince William met in Buckingham Palace for the important ceremony on Tuesday: the British author was made a Companion of Honour in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The 52-year-old mother of Harry Potter was handed the rare title by the Duke of Cambridge during an investiture on Tuesday morning, this decoration is in addition to her OBE, which she was awarded in 2001. The special award held by only 65 people at any one time, with it the British monarch demonstrates the recognising citizen’s services of national importance.
The book about Harry Potter became the modern classic of the literature for kids, Britons are proud by JK Rowling. The author said in a statement she is deeply honoured and proud to be made Companion of Honour by Prince William at Buckingham Palace.
‘To be included in the distinguished and diversely talented company of the other Companions of Honour, especially as a female writer, is a particular privilege,’
Ms Rowling added.
The Companion of Honour is granted to people who have made a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine, or government lasting over a long period of time. Current members include Dame Maggie Smith (yes, that unbelievable Violet Crawley from the Downtown Abbey), Stephen Hawking, while Winston Churchill was previously a holder of the title.

Membership of the Order of the Companions of Honour, established in 1917 by George V who decided that this special award should be held by only 65 people at any one time.
Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and designer Sir Terence Conran were also announced to join Rowling and Smith in the Order, but are yet to formally receive their honours. A prolific Twitter user with more than 10 million followers, she uses it to promote her charities, including Lumos, and also to speak out against Brexit and US President Donald Trump.
